View Multiple Worksheets in Excel

In today’s post, we would touch on how to view multiple worksheets at the same time in excel. Knowing this would come in handy when you need to review changes made to versions of the same model or workbook. It is easier to do rather than flipping back and forth with ALT+TAB as both worksheets are kept in your view. It can also be used to view 2 worksheets of the same workbook at the same time, this comes in handy during model edits when you need to view Input sheets and output sheets at the same time

Without further ado, let’s get into the steps for viewing multiple sheets side by side. We would begin with viewing two worksheets of the same workbook. In our example, we have a simple site diesel model for a telecommunications company. It calculates the expected monthly consumption of diesel depending on the generator capacity and on-grid availability (i.e Availability of power supply from the local utility’s grid which is not up to 24 hours in most cases). We have a data sheet and an output sheet and the data sheet calculates expected consumption per Generator capacity based on the historical trends in the data sheet. To view both sheets at the same time, just follow these easy steps:

View Multiple Worksheets in the Same Workbook

Step 1: Open the workbook and navigate to the view tab in the excel ribbon

Step 2: Click on New window, when this is executed, excel opens a new window containing another view of the document.

Step 3: The next steps is to navigate back to the windows group and click on Arrange all to select your desired orientation

View Multiple Worksheets Step 2

Step 4: Select your desired orientation and click on OK.

View Multiple Worksheets in the Another Workbook at the same time

The outcome is quite similar to that of the previous section . The only difference is that there are 2 different workbooks. This is most useful for noting changes in different versions of the same model.

Step 1: Open the 2 workbooks you would like to compare side by side

Step 2: Navigate to the view tab in the excel ribbon and click on view side by side

View Multiple Workbooks Step 1

Step 3: Select the other workbook you want to compare to the one you are currently on. Note that if there are only two workbooks open, excel would automatically compare those 2 workbooks.

Result: We can conveniently view the two versions at the same time and note the changes we made.
